This was was of he first discovered micoscope in the human history.The disadvantage is that it has a small reslution power and hence is not sufficient to view small organelles. Its resolution power is not small and limited to certain range.
This occurs as a result because the wavelenght of light is limited .To overcome this problem the electron microscope was invented which uses electron beams and hence the resolution power of em is highly increased because the wavelength corresponding to the electron beam is very small.
